 TARGET STORE TO RECEIVE 'BEST OF SHOW' AWARD
 AT 40TH ANNUAL RETAIL ADVERTISING CONFERENCE
 Kids for Saving Earth Campaign Wins Second Year in a Row
 CHICAGO, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) today announced it will present Target Stores discount retail chain with its "Best of Show" award at the 40th annual Retail Advertising Conference awards ceremony tonight at the Hilton and Towers Hotel in downtown Chicago.
 A trade association with more than 1,800 members worldwide, RAMA will award Target the prestigious Heineman Trophy, named for RAMA founder Ralph Heineman. The decision, which recognizes Target's "Kids for Saving Earth" (KSE) environmental campaign, marks the first time the Best of Show award has been given to the same retailer two consecutive years. It is also the first time the award has been given for the same campaign: Target's KSE campaign won the Heineman Trophy last year as well.
 Target became involved with the KSE program in 1989 after learning about an environmental group started by a young boy name Clinton Hill. The program's concept -- establishing a national non-profit organization that has thousands of active KSE clubs worldwide -- appealed to Target's commitment to address customers' and employees' environmental concerns, according to Ann Aronson, environmental program manager for Target.
 As the international and major sponsor of KSE, Target provides KSE brochures and newsletters in the stores, acts as a KSE liaison between stores and local elementary schools, and supports the efforts of local KSE clubs.
 "The judges were so impressed with Target's KSE campaign that it was an unanimous decision to give them the award again this year," said Tom Holliday, executive vice president of RAMA and chairman of judging. "Target's continued commitment to its KSE campaign shows that it is not just an attempt for publicity. When you see a company that is sincerely committed to a cause, and not simply using it for self-grandizing purposes, it should be rewarded."
 Conference award judges represent a cross-section of the RAMA board of directors' companies, including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Dayton's, Sears and JC Penney.
 According to Holliday, a record number of entries were submitted this year -- 1,858 -- by retailers or their advertising or marketing agencies. Entries are categorized by the type of store and its sales volume. In addition to the Heineman Trophy, more than 100 awards will be given at the conference this year.
 More than 500 people are expected to attend the award ceremony, which begins at 7 p.m.
 Minneapolis-based Target Stores is an upscale discount department store chain of 463 stores in 32 states coast to coast, and is the largest division of Dayton Hudson Corporation, one of the nation's leading retailers.
