TAMBRANDS DIVESTS MAXITHINS PAD BUSINESS
TAMBRANDS DIVESTS MAXITHINS PAD BUSINESS WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tambrands, Inc.
(NYSE: TMB) announced today that it has completed the sale of its Maxithins sanitary pad business to Hospital Specialty Company, a division of the Tranzonic Companies, Cleveland, Ohio (AMEX: TNZA,TNZB). Financial terms were not disclosed.
With the sale of Tambrands' Maxithins business, which operates principally in the United States and Canada, the company is exiting completely from the pad business worldwide. Last month, Tambrands sold its pad business in Mexico and agreed to sell its pad and diaper businesses in Brazil. Upon the closing of the Brazilian transaction, Tambrands will no longer manufacture or market sanitary pads anywhere in the world. Martin F.C. Emmett, Tambrands' chairman and chief executive officer, said, "The sale of the Maxithins and other pad businesses marks the last major step in our announced strategy of refocusing the company on our Tampax tampon business. We can now devote our efforts exclusively to being the leading supplier of tampons worldwide." Tambrands introduced the Maxithins line of pads and panty shields in 1981. Hospital Specialty Company, a national manufacturer of control label and private label disposable baby diapers, adult incontinence products and feminine hygiene products, plans to expand the Maxithins business in the United States and Canada. Tambrands manufactures Tampax(R) tampons and markets them in over 135 countries around the world. -0- 6/25/92 /CONTACT: Paul E.
