TALISMAN ENERGY ACHIEVES MORE DRILLING SUCCESSES

CALGARY, Alberta, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Talisman Energy Inc. today announced drilling success on a number of fronts. "This series of discoveries underlines the deep gas prospectivity of the Western Canadian Basin," said Dr. Jim Buckee, president and chief operating officer.
Together with its partner, Amoco Canada, Talisman has achieved another major wildcat gas discovery in the Sukunka area of northeastern British Columbia.
The Talisman-operated well, Sukunka a-6-f/93-P-5, tested gas at an initial rate of 42 million cubic feet per day on a seven-eighth- inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 3207 psi.
The well penetrated a previously undrilled structure encountering 669 feet of Triassic age gross pay in the Pardonet and Baldonnel formations. The acid gas content of approximately 21 percent is lower than other wells in the immediate area which will have a favorable impact on processing costs and recoverable sales gas.
A pipeline gathering system is currently being constructed in the area and will tie in a-6-F, Brazion b-2-E and Burnt River c-62-D, all Talisman-operated wells in which Amoco Canada is a 50 percent partner. The wells will be tied into production facilities by July 1993.
The most recent well, Talisman - Amoco Sukunka d-39-C/93-P-5, has just been completed open hole in the Triassic. The well is currently being tested. Tie in of this well is expected before Westcoast Energy's Pine River expansion in November 1994.
Talisman is currently drilling Talisman et al Murray d-57-J/93-I-14 in the southern portion of its Monkman acreage. In early May, the company expects to spud Talisman Ocelot West Sukunka d-98-J/93-P-4 and will probably drill two to three additional wells in the Monkman area this year.
In the Peace River Arch area, Talisman, with a 50 percent partner, made a significant new pool gas discovery. The well is capable of production from multiple zones, and completion of one of these zones is underway. Additional activity in the area is planned.
The company, in partnership with Chevron Canada Resources, also has made a new pool discovery in the Pembina area. Appraisal drilling is underway.
"Our strategy has been to apply technology to guide our drilling and to seek the deeper wells which have higher rates and larger volumes. I'm delighted to see our strategy bearing fruit in a number of locations," said Buckee.
