TACO BELL ANNOUNCES EMPLOYEE AND COMMUNITY RELIEF PLANS

TACO BELL ANNOUNCES EMPLOYEE AND COMMUNITY RELIEF PLANS
What: Tomorrow morning (Sept. 1), Taco Bell will launch a

significant relief plan covering both immediate and longer-term needs of the community and its employees. The linchpin of the program is to provide hot meals to South Dade residents hardest hit by Hurricane Andrew.
 Highlights:
-- The company will start serving lunch at key Red Cross shelters utilizing a self-contained mobile coach that has been converted into a travelling Taco Bell. Further, portable "new concept" carts that were shipped by train from Denver will also be deployed.
-- Taco Bell will provide the Salvation Army with shipments of paper goods -- paper plates, napkins, silverware, etc. -- which are needed because of lack of water for washing.
-- An employee relief center will be opened Tuesday morning to assist more than 200 Taco Bell employees who were displaced. Employees will receive food, medical attention, money, free telephone service, and other assistance. All affected employees will remain on the payroll.
-- The company will announce the formation of a nationwide relief effort to raise money through more than 2,000 restaurants nationwide over the next few weeks. Details will be announced tomorrow.
When: The program will be unveiled on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m.
Where: Taco Bell store at S.W. 63rd Avenue and U.S. 1. This is also the site of the employee relief center.
The first shelter feedings will be at:
 -- Miami-Dade Community College, South Campus (11011 S.W. 104 St.) at noon.
 -- Coral Park High School, 8865 S.W. 16 Street at 12:30.
 What Else:
-- Taco Bell has 27 restaurants in the immediate area, five of which were damaged or destroyed.
-- The company has a history of corporate commitment to the communities it serves. Taco Bell recently rebuilt a burned-out restaurant in riot-torn Los Angeles in just 48 hours as a way to begin putting people back to work.
