TAA hosts iftar for members of Congress.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- The Turkic American Alliance (T), the umbrella organization for various Turkic associations in the United States, on Wednesday held a fast-breaking dinner for members and staffers of the US Congress, in the Rayburn House Office Building.

At the dinner speakers gave messages of unity and friendship. Andre Carson, one of two Muslim congressmen in the US House of Representatives, expressed gratitude for the holding of a fast breaking dinner (iftar). He underlined the importance of human beings as creatures of God regardless of their ethnicity. Carson said that iftar dinners help people to learn more about Islam as they bring people from different cultures and origins together.

This was the second iftar that T has organized for members of Congress. In addition to Carson, Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, New York Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas Congressman Al Green and Florida Congressman Joe Garcia also attended the event in the nation's capital.

Carson and Jackson Lee were presented with awards recognizing their support for the T. The T is the largest Turkic civil society organization in the US and is headed by Faruk Taban.
