System Associates selected for UK's local Directgov Programme.
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTDLondon Connects has selected System Associates, an integrated web services company, to provide the Internet technology for the e-Government Local Directgov Programme in the UK, which is supported by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).
The programme, an extension to Directgov, will link local services and central government and aims to increase the reach of local authority online services in the UK and extend citizen take-up. Around 388 local authorities and 800 different services in the UK are to be indexed to the Local Directgov Programme and System Associates will develop the programme's collaborative infrastructure.
A pilot project is expected to begin in 2006 and there will be two main parts to the web interface created - a public search interface to direct people to the appropriate service page or website. In addition, a secure extranet will enable local authority web managers to link and index new content to the site and System said the venture will result in a more joined-up e-government.
London Connects said the programme aims to guide the citizen through the range of public sector services available, taking down barriers and removing the need for citizens to understand how their local authority works.
