Syria Participates in Meeting of International Experts for Combating Organized Crime in Vienna.

Vienna, (SANA) -- Participants in the meeting of the intergovernmental meeting of experts on possible mechanisms to Review implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime called for adopting an effective joint mechanism for combating organized crime, human trafficking and arms trafficking.The meeting called for exploring the mechanisms of the Convention and supporting its implementation, forming a work team dedicated to following up on the progress of the Convention's implementation, and providing information on combating organized crime.During the meeting, head of the Department of Arab and International Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior Brig. General Hisham Tinawi stressed the need for benefiting from regional and international expertise in combating organized crime and providing technical support according to standards specified by the UN for member countries.The United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime was signed in the Italian city of Palermo in 2000, and was put into effect in 2003. So far, 153 countries signed the convention, including Syria.H. Sabbagh
