Syria's envoy praises steps to curb arms smuggling.
BEIRUT: The Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul-Karim Ali praised Tuesday what he called the "positive steps" taken by the Lebanese Army to prevent infiltrators and arms smugglers from crossing the border into Syria.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri, Ali said he discussed with the speaker last week's heated parliamentary sessions in Lebanon, the yearlong crisis in Syria and the situation on the increasingly tense Lebanese-Syrian border.
"We discussed the positive steps being taken by the Lebanese Army to control infiltrators and smugglers and also measures taken by some security services," Ali said.
He added that he assured Berri that Syrian President Bashar Assad's steps to carry out reforms in Syria were serious and continuing.
