Syngenta Japan K.K. Appoints Andrew Guthrie as President.

Tokyo, Japan, Nov 17, 2006 - (JCN Newswire) - Leading agrochemical company Syngenta Japan K.K. announced today that Andrew Guthrie has been appointed as the Syngenta Japan K.K. President, effective 1 December 2006.

Since January 2005, Guthrie has been the Country Head for Syngenta Crop Protection Ltd. in Thailand. In this position, he successfully led the business and increased sales and market share in a highly competitive market. Earlier assignments include Regional Asia Pacific Head for Marketing and Development in Hong Kong and Singapore and Global Marketing roles in the UK and Switzerland after spending ten years in Australia with ICI Crop Care.

Current President, Michael Kester will return to Europe after several international assignments to lead Syngenta's Vegetable business in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Profile: Andrew W. Guthrie, President, Syngenta Japan K.K.

Andrew has had over 19 years experience in global, regional and country roles in agri-business across Asia Europe and Australia. He was appointed President, Syngenta Japan K.K., effective December 1, 2006.

Immediately prior to this appointment, Andrew was the Managing Director and Country Head of Syngenta Crop Protection Ltd in Thailand, a position he held since January 2005. In this role, he successfully led the implementation of a new customer-focused strategy to increase sales and market share in Thailand, which resulted in a successful turnaround of the business.

Andrew been involved in the development of Syngenta's business in the region, as a Member of Syngenta's Asia Pacific Regional Leadership Team, and played a significant role in the strategic overview of South East Asian countries.

Prior to his Thailand posting, Andrew was the Regional Marketing and Business Development Head: Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong and then Singapore. He was responsible for leading the Regional Marketing and Product Development Team across fourteen countries in Asia Pacific. Previously, Andrew worked with Zeneca Agro, UK and Syngenta AG, Switzerland as the Global Product Manager -- Insecticides where he led the Global Product Leadership Team for pyrethroids.

Before moving to Europe, Andrew worked with ICI and Crop Care Australasia. After several years working in sales and marketing roles, Andrew joined the Country Management Team where he initially led the Supply Chain. In this role he successfully managed the re-engineering of Crop Care's supply chain to dramatically increase overall customer satisfaction whilst improving the company's working capital position. He subsequently became the National Sales Manager where a strong customer focus underpinned a sales strategy that resulted in continuous growth for the business which was the leading supplier of agrichemicals across Australasia.

Andrew, born in Australia in 1965, graduated from La Trobe University Melbourne, Australia with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honors (1986). He is married to Kerry with two boys, Angus and Lachlan.
