Symposium to promote Internet use in teaching astronomy

TOKYO, June 18 Kyodo

A symposium to promote international cooperation in the field of astronomy education using the Internet will be held in Wakayama Prefecture, western Japan on June 27-28, organizers said Thursday.

The symposium in the town of Misato aims to use in classrooms the latest information available from professional space telescopes via the Internet, the organizers said, adding the symposium will cover seven themes, including remote telescopes in education and Internet technology in education, the organizers said.

They said Japanese researchers will propose setting up telescopes on the international space station for use of education.

Researchers from the United States will unveil their plan to build an astronomy education center in Hawaii, the organizers added.
