Symplex Delivers RO-2.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1999--

Symplex Communications Corporation (VSE:SYC.U.), a worldwide provider of custom Internet solutions, announces that beta testing is complete on RO-2 and units have been shipped to customers in the US and Europe. RO-2 is the newest addition to the DirectRoute line of products and has been certified, with orders placed, by one European PTT and is in the process of a second certification.

"After beta testing the RO-2, my customer was impressed with the performance and wanted to purchase it," stated Aubrey Phillips of Maughn's Computer Consultants Ltd., a Symplex reseller. "We believe the RO-2 is a perfect fit for our small to medium size business market."

The RO-2 is a high performance router ideal for accessing corporate networks and the Internet. Designed to maximize throughput over Internet connections, it provides the speed of ISDN plus Symplex's proprietary compression technology to support the growing need for corporate and Internet access. RO-2 recently underwent independent testing against Cisco's 2600 router and test results proved RO-2 to have better overall throughput performance than Cisco's hardware compression card using STAC compression. More information on this test is available at

Due to the explosive growth of Internet usage, security is also a top concern among customers. With this in mind, Symplex has developed RO-2 with a flexible set of security features that are capable of protecting network resources, as well as securing information transmitted through the Internet. Ideally suited for Virtual Private Networks, RO-2 includes security features such as an integrated firewall, Network Address Translation (NAT) and secure Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) tunneling. For enhanced security, an optional co-processor encryption card will also be available on the RO-2 in Q3, 1999.

"In addition to addressing security issues, Symplex is incorporating some other unique features into our products to accommodate some of our large customers," states Duane Gardner, Symplex's Director of Marketing. "With the RO-2, we want to deliver a high performance router that best fits our customers' needs."

Other important features of RO-2 include Domain Name Server (DNS) proxy, dedicated ISDN, IP and IPX Routing, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and agent, and remote configuration. Physical specifications include a 10BaseT LAN port, one BRI port and two optional POTS ports for connecting external devices. RO-2 is available in 35 countries and the Manufacturer's Standard List Price is $649 or $699 with POTS.
