Symplex's Compression Beats Cisco's in Independent ZDTag Test.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 1999--

Symplex Communications Corporation (VSE:SYC.U.), a worldwide provider of custom Internet solutions, released the report of ZDTag, the ZD Testing and Analysis Group, which independently verified the better performance of Symplex's DirectRoute RO-2 router against Cisco Systems' (Nasdaq:CSCO) 2600 router with the hardware compression card. "In some cases the Symplex RO-2 outperformed the Cisco 2600 by a significant margin, providing as much as 144% higher average throughput," the report stated.

This report, available on the ZDTag website at http://www.zdnet.com/zdtag/reports/symplex.html, confirms Symplex's previous report about its proprietary software compression technology providing better overall throughput performance than Cisco's hardware compression card using STAC compression. Symplex's compression technology advantage lies in its ability to efficiently and dynamically adapt to different types of traffic patterns, and maximize throughput as it learns.

Given the widespread use of the Internet, the bandwidth-intensive applications on networks today, and the rising communication costs, it is essential for companies to maximize network performance. Symplex products have demonstrated the ability to boost performance better than STAC compression, and avoid some communication costs by using its proprietary software compression technology on all product lines.

The DirectRoute RO-2 is a high-performance router ideal for accessing the Internet and corporate networks. It supports an integrated firewall, network address translation (NAT) for multiple users, dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server and agent, GRE tunneling, dedicated ISDN, IP and IPX routing, and Symplex's proprietary software compression technology. The RO-2 has a 10BaseT LAN port, (1) BRI, and (2) optional POTS ports. It is available for shipment in 35 countries worldwide, and priced at $649 (without POTS) and $699 (with POTS).
