New Feature Unique to Antigen Technology Sets Policy Against the

Largest Virus Threats to Organizations Today: Worm Viruses

Sybari Software, Inc., the premier developers of Antigen, a comprehensive anti-virus, content-management, and e-mail security solution for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino/Notes environments, today announced its release of Antigen 6.1 for Microsoft Exchange.

Antigen 6.1 delivers best-of-breed anti-virus protection for messaging servers and brings to market an innovative technologically advanced security component, Antigen Worm Purge(TM). Antigen Worm Purge(TM), a proactive safeguard tool against worms burrowing into e-mail networks, enables network administrators to prevent the overload of virus-generated messages churned out when worm viruses are unleashed in an environment.

"This innovative new feature was developed as a direct result of the many requests received from clients for a component that automatically stopped worm infected messages from disrupting their Exchange environments," said Tom Buoniello, vice president of product management for Sybari Software, Inc. "This ground breaking technology is the latest addition to our Content Management toolset and enables network administrators to take a preemptive stance in email virus protection by providing a Sybari maintained list of Worm viruses that are automatically purged from the Exchange messaging stream."

Sybari, known as the first vendor to develop the ESE technology approach in securing the integrity of Microsoft Exchange, also leads the industry with its unique multiple scan engine technology. With Antigen WORM PURGE(TM), another first, network administrators now have the ability to configure the Internet Scan Job and Real-Time Scan Job to purge messages infected by worms, thus preventing their entry into an organization's messaging infrastructure. The preset worm list that ships with the product is compiled of all the recent worms viruses, is maintained by Sybari and updated regularly. When the Antigen Real-time scanner determines that a message at the Information Store is infected with a worm, it blocks the message and generates a non-delivery report (NDR) from Exchange to the sender. Worm Purge(TM) then prevents the worm-generated message from being sent to its unsuspecting recipients. Worm Purge(TM) is also available when scanning inbound and outbound Internet messages in the SMTP stack of Exchange 2000 or the Internet Mail Connector of Exchange 5.5 When the Antigen Internet scanner determines that a message is infected with a worm, it purges the message by deleting the entire email message. In all cases, Antigen can be configured to send notifications to the message sender and Exchange administrators indicating that a message was purged.

Using File Filtering to Purge Worm Viruses

As with Antigen File Filtering (AFF) technology, Worm Purge is also designed to be a proactive tool in order to prevent new worm threats from spreading before scanner engines are updated - The attachment names for worm generated messages can be placed in the File Filter list under the File Filtering panel for purging messages that contain particular file attachment names.

The Antigen Worm Purge(TM) component equips us with added protection for our messaging servers and meets the growing need for pre-emptive virus protection from the ever-growing threat of worms," said Chris Taylor, senior information technology architect, Natural Resources Canada. "Worm Purge(TM) has reduced help desk calls and user anxiety through the optional ability to silently drop messages known to be generated by worms. The constant evolution of Antigen with new features to respond to expanding viral threats is exactly what we need in an anti-virus product," added Taylor.

By integrating Antigen 6.1 technology into a groupware environment organizations are armed with the best in defense. Antigen delivers multiple virus scan engine support with five of the leading scan engine technologies from Network Associates, Sophos, Norman Data Defense, and InoculateIT/VET from Computer Associates, as well as two robust content management features with Antigen File Filtering(TM) and Antigen Worm Purge(TM).
