Swivel Launches SMS Mobile Two-Factor Wireless Authentication Technology; Anytime, Anywhere SMS Support Delivers Smart Alternative to Token Based Authentication.

BOSTON, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Swivel Secure America, Inc., today announced Swivel SAS PINsafe(TM)M2F(TM), the latest release of its advanced authentication technology. SAS PINsafe M2F (mobile two factor authentication) works with common mobile devices to generate a unique one-time code (OTC) to verify user identity wherever and whenever it is needed.

Swivel authentication technology uses a randomly generated security string coupled with a PIN to produce a unique one-time code for every secure session. With SAS PINsafe M2F, the security string is delivered to and stored on a GSM/CDMA-connected wireless device as an SMS text message ready for use when required. Using a registered PIN, the user visually extracts the OTC from the security string and enters it using a standard Web interface. By creating a network disconnect between the two key elements of the authentication process - the transmitted security string and the returning OTC entered by the user - SAS M2F provides the highest level of security to prevent Identity theft and fraud.

"The cell phone and other mobile devices have become ubiquitous around the world; and this has created a new opportunity for secure user authentication with online applications and services," said Fraser Thomas, CEO of Swivel's UK-based parent company Swivel Technologies Ltd. "Leveraging the full functionality of existing wireless devices and networks to replace expensive single function tokens is a no-brainer for any enterprise that is concerned about protecting data and individual user's identities. In addition to reducing the number of devices that the mobile worker carries, there are also clear financial benefits stemming from the reduced administrative overhead of token based systems."

In addition to SMS, SAS PINsafe M2F also includes a version for Java- enabled handsets with an Internet connection. Users download a J2ME applet, which enables the PIN to be entered using the device's keypad to automatically generate the OTC on the screen. The user can store up to 25 security strings at any given time, which enables authentication during extended periods if no cellular network connection is available.

"All of the forecasts for IT spending suggest that security will be a key investment area over the next 3 to 5 years," said Andy Cole, vice president business development, Swivel. "We believe that through our channel partners we can offer a unique technology that will deliver strong business benefits. Swivel M2F provides a significant differentiator in its ability to store security strings for use while out of cellular range, and this creates new opportunities for our channel partners and their customers."

About the Technology

Swivel M2F combines the dual communications channels of the Internet and a wireless networks to offer strong, two-factor, authentication for both B2B and mass-market applications. Two-factor authentication involves the use of something you know and something you have in order to confirm that 'you are who you say you are', in an online environment. M2F uses a 4-digit PIN as the 'something' the user knows and a cellular mobile phone as the 'something' the user has. A lightweight, server-based protocol, Swivel M2F, does not require complex 3rd party certification, encryption or dedicated hard tokens.

As with all Swivel solutions, M2F is based on the patented Swivel algorithm, which uses a randomly generated, 10-digit security string and a 4- digit PIN to create a secure one-time authentication code.

An online demonstration of M2F is available at https://swivel.netlight.se/tech.jsp.

SAS PINsafe is the first purpose designed B2C authentication technology for the Information and Data Access markets and is currently being piloted by a number of major financial organizations to strengthen existing user ID security for online account access as well as enterprises looking for a lower cost option to secure logon procedures to Intranet and Extranet resources.

Pricing and Availability

End-user prices for Swivel authentication technologies start at around $30 per user falling to below 50 cents for high volume applications. Supplied as a standard rack mounted appliance, the Swivel server software operates in a Linux or Windows environment and has a range of standard API's to enable rapid and simple integration with the most common enterprise network architectures.

Swivel M2F is available through accredited Systems Integrators, VARs and technology vendors, such as security systems integrator Intelligent Decisions, (http://www.intelligent.net/), one of the fastest growing systems integrators in the government sector. Swivel is offering interested companies a comprehensive package of technical and sales support including accredited training courses.
