Swiss non-alcohol brew debuts in U.S.

For the past 40 years, the Swiss have enjoyed a non-alcohol brew that "is one of the best-kept secrets" in the brewing industry, according to the brewer. Now, however, Ziegelhof non-alcohol brew has been unveiled in North America by Canada-based De Belle & Gallagher Inc.

According to its brewer, Brauerei Ziegelhof, Ziegelhof is brewed in the same manner as the company's regular products. However, in the 1950s, the brewery developed a special yeast that retards the production of alcohol during fermentation. The result is a "fully-brewed miracle of the brewing world," the brewer said.

After uncovering Ziegelhof in Switzerland, Linda De Belle and Gregory Gallagher presented their find the U.S. public in a number of tasting situations throughout the United States, where it won accolades from those who tasted it, the partners said.

De Belle & Gallagher, along with importer Briggs, Inc., of Bangor, ME, has appointed F. Strauss & Son of New Orleans, LA, as a master distributor and Brooklyn Brewery to handle the greater-New York market.
