Swifts take the plunge at awards night.

LINDLEY Swifts under10 and Under 9s' presentation night rewarded all players for their hard work.

The event was held at Elland Swimming baths, where a fun swim was followed by a reception at Birchencliffe Cricket Club.

This was the first season with the new team of coaches, Shane Whittaker and Mike Groves for the under 10s and Nichola Smorthit and Mark Hudson for the under 9s. Both teams have responded extremely well to the new training style and some of the under 9s have played a year above their actual age group. All players received medals. Awards went to: Under 10: Harry Drennan grafter of the year; Jacob Garbutt most improved player of the year, Eleanor Smith player of the year, Max Groves sportsman of the year and Dan May players' player and top tackler.

Under 10: Aaryn Golding-Belafonte grafter of the year, Johnny Kinder-Hudson most improved player,Vaughn Corcoran player of year, Owen Simpson sportsman of year, Abigail Rice players' player of year and Alfie Broscombe top tackler.

A special award went to Finbar Drennan for his commitment to the club as he has attended every training session despite being unable to play this season due to the merging of under 8 and Under 9s.

Swifts give a massive thank you to kit sponsors Birchencliffe Cricket Club, Specsavers, C & J Metcalf Tiling Contactors, Huddersfield and Tony's Window cleaning service in Lindley.

Lindley Swifts Under 13,10 9 and 8s are currently recruiting. Anyone wanting to be part of the team should email your contact details to Under 13 Brighouse 46 Swifts 0 Swifts made a promising start with new boy Jamie Kelly, Luke Ramsden and Ronan Costello making solid tackles before the powerful hosts took the lead.

Brighouse were on top form and would not let Swifts gain any coverage on the pitch. There defence was second to none. Lindley never gave up and they kept positive. Even though they worked hard on the pitch they just could not stop Brighouse from scoring try after try.

Man of the Match went to Jamie Kelly, best tackler went to Nathan Taylor, and grafter went to Ronan Costello.
