Sweet success for pie bakery.

POUNDBAKERY has beaten the competition to win an award for the best mince pies.

The bakery, founded in Bolton, which has branches across the UK, beat Aldi to claim the top spot at the British Baker Christmas Stars awards.

The pies were pitted against bakes from supermarket chains and judged by an expert panel.

Linda Kianfar of Foodhaven Ltd said: "It was just a very, very good mince pie."

Aldi's Specially Selected mince pies were second and highly commended. Aldi's panettone won a top prize and it also had products highly commended.

Marketing manager at Poundbakery Keely Palin said: "Year on year we receive lovely comments from our customers about how Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without Poundbakery's Mince Pies, so we're delighted that they have got the recognition that they deserve."
