Swede chariot.

DON'T be put off by snotty know-alls who say old Volvos are boring. More often than not they have never driven one.

Sales figures for the really big 940/960 range show exceptionally high brand-loyalty among customers.

Internal statistics show that over the last two years 50 per cent are staying with the Swedish manufacturer when replacing their car.

Over 62,000 cars in the 900 series have been sold here since the 1990 launch.

A big majority favour the 940, with its 2.0 and 2.3 litre engines the most popular choice.

More than 70 per cent of 940 customers opted for the estate - which boasts 35 cu ft of load carrying space, the same as the bigger, 3-litre 960. That expands to 75 cu ft when the seats are folded down.

Volvo are way out ahead of rivals Ford (Scorpio), Vauxhall (Omega) and Audi in the big car estate sales league with almost 50 per cent of the market.

Buying a second-hand 940/960 guarantees you performance, comfort, dependability and maximum safety.

Men represent 90 per cent of buyers of the super-space-mobiles, with a high number of retired buyers for both models - 64 per cent for the 940s and 25 per cent for the 960s.

Top customers for the 960 are company directors, with 30 per cent. The neighbours will definitely be impressed.
