Swan named vice president for WWU relations.

Steve Swan has been named the vice president for university relations at Western Washington University, President Bruce Shepard announced.

Swan, assistant chancellor for university advancement at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, will start at Western on Jan. 5. He succeeds Robert Frazier, who resigned last summer, and will have responsibility for the University's overall external relations, marketing and communications.

The position title has also been changed from vice president of external affairs to university relations, with expanded responsibilities that include presidential initiatives such as the waterfront development project and enhancement of the transparency and effectiveness of decision-making.

Swan is in the fifth year of his second tenure of leading the advancement division at UW-Green Bay. He supervises the alumni, development, government relations and marketing and communications offices and is the leader of the University's $25 million capital campaign, which is now in its final stages.
