Suzuki Motor Corporation (Suzuki) (TYO: 7269), a Japan-based automaker, is behind schedule in building its St. Petersburg car plant, according a source familiar with the project as reported in Reuters.

The company is delaying the project because of the need to remove peat from the site.

According to another source, the automaker and the Japanese trading house Itochu had planned to start production of the Grand Vitara and SX4 at the facility from the autumn of 2009. The project requires an investment of USD100m.
