Suspects to stand trial for defaming companions of Prophet Mohammed and "the Mother of the Believers".

Manama, Sept. 1 (BNA)-- The Public Prosecution has completed investigations into the case of defaming the companions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and insulting "the Mother of the Believers" Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Northern Governorate Adnan Fakhro said.

The suspects will stand trial by the Third Lower Criminal Court on September 7. They are facing charges of offending a glorified symbol for Muslims, misusing telecommunication devices, printing publications and raising funds without authorisation from competent parties, setting up a library and taking up the printing profession without a licence from the relevant authority.

Three of the suspects were remanded in custody pending investigation. The Public Prosecution also ordered confiscation of the defamatory books and the funds as well as shutting down the library and sealing it off. It also referred the case for a speedy trial to hand the toughest penalty for the suspects, including the writer of the defamatory book.

Details have shown that two of the suspects logged on to a social communication network (Instagram) and defamed the companions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). They were tracked down and arrested. Investigations showed that they raised money without authorisation and sent it to a satellite channel specialising in offending the Prophet's companions and "the Mother of the Believers". The second suspect also printed a defamatory book insulting "the Mother of the Believers" Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) with the consent of the library's owner who was also arrested.

A fourth suspect, the director of the writer's office, who is outside Bahrain, was also found guilty of pushing for and helping with the publication of the book.
