Supreme Court accepts PTV appeal in service tax case.

Islamabad -- Supreme Court of Pakistan while suspending the High Court Decision accepted PTV appeal against imposition of Service Tax.

According to the details, the top court has done away with the excise service tax on PTV license fee.

The appeal was heard by three member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar.

The Chief Justice asked as to what is being paid by PTV for providing its service, to which the PTV counsel argued that no tax is applicable on the national channel.

FBR had issued notice to PTV stating that PTV should pay tax on license fee.

Justice Ijaz Ul Hassan posed questions 'how the license fee is taxable and how would you know that consumer of 300 units possesses TV for use'

The counsel replied that license fee does not go to government but to PTV and that shows the fee in its income.

However the apex court while handing down verdict, set aside the High Court decision and directed to eliminate excise service tax on PTV license fee.
