Support in drive vs butane assured.

Cebu City - The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) has assured the Department of Energy (DOE) of its full support in the campaign against illegal refilling of butane canisters with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

PRO-7 Director Prudencio Tom BaAaAaAeA~as said the regional Philippine Nation Police (PNP) office will form a task force to go after the illegal refilling of such canisters.

BaAaAaAeA~as issued the pronouncement after a meeting with DOE director Anton Labios. Labios sought the help of the police in addressing the illegal refilling of canisters with LPG.

The meeting came a week after a store selling refilled butane canisters caught fire following an explosion.

Labios said the DOE is imposing a stiffer penalty on violators, as provided for by Department Circular 2014-01-0001 requiring LPG industry players to secure a Standard Compliance Certificate (SCC).

He said that a violator could be slapped with an administrative fine of P60,000 for a single violation without prejudice to the filing of a criminal complaint in court.

Butane canisters are intended for one-time use only and refilling them with LPG is very dangerous, according to Labios.
