Support for skate park.

PLANS to build a new skatepark in Banchory have been ramped up, with councillors likely to approve a land lease.

Aberdeenshire Council's Marr area committee has already backed the plans at Bellfield Park but will now have to petition the courts because the site is common good land.

The Banchory Skatepark Group (BSG) is behind the scheme and aims to revamp the town's current park.

Last year, the council approved a 25-year lease which would allow the BSG to acquire grant funding for the site.

But as the wider area is part of common good land, a community consultation had to be held to demonstrate public support.

More than 99% people of 531 surveyed supported the proposals in a survey. If the courts ultimately approve the lease, the group must go through the standard planning process.
