Support for fuel demo.

PLANS to bring Stanlow oil refinery to a standstill are gathering support among fuel protesters.

Three Facebook groups calling for go-slow protests at the Shell refinery, Ellesmere Port, has received scores of pledges of attendance.

One calls for action tomorrow, from 7.30pm, another on Saturday, from 7.30am, with a third, day-long protest on Monday.

Organisers aim to disrupt lorries at Stanlow rather than the public.

NFU president Peter Kendall has ruled out a high-profile protest against rising fuel prices, saying it would be counter-productive.

However its policy of negotiation puts it at odds with organisations such as Farmers for Action which recently called for direct fuel protests.
