Superb facilities at senior school.

IN September, Newcastle High School for Girls opened its doors to a new senior school building following the completion of a significant building project.

Situated on Tankerville Terrace, Jesmond, the new senior school follows a multi-million pound redevelopment of its junior school in Sandyford.

Boasting a superb learning environment for girls aged three to 18, Newcastle High School's facilities are among the finest in the region.

Just as for the junior school, the senior school has been built around the needs of the exciting curriculum at Newcastle High meaning that the range of facilities and quality of resources are outstanding.

In the senior school for instance, each classroom is fitted with the equivalent of a giant smart screen that uses the most up-to-the-minute technology and allows for seamless interaction between the screen and pupils' laptops or tablets. There is also an array of specialist facilities. A whole floor is dedicated to science which incorporates state-of-the-art science laboratories, science demonstration areas and even a science terrace for outdoor experiments. A vast performing arts venue has professional standard lighting and sound equipment and there are substantial facilities for art, dance and music.

For sport, a new AstroTurf pitch and track is to be opened in January and will supplement two large sports halls, outdoor courts and a fitness suite.

Sixth form girls benefit from an impressive common room, library and quiet areas for study exclusively for their use.

Hilary French, headmistress at Newcastle High School for Girls, said: "Our new senior school is absolutely incredible. The quality of the build inside and outside is exceptional and we are grateful to the teams of people who have worked so hard to realise our vision.

"Every day, girls at Newcastle High benefit from a 21st Century educational environment that is inspiring, exciting and designed to enhance learning. Every day, our staff can enhance their teaching by making full use of our outstanding resources and spaces. Our whole school community is so proud and privileged to have the best facilities in the North East."

Reaction to the senior school from pupils and parents has been overwhelmingly positive: "I have been absolutely bowled over - I knew the new school would be good but didn't realise just how good," said one parent whose opinion has been echoed throughout the Newcastle High School community.

Poppy, who joined the school in September, added: "When I saw the school for the first time I was speechless. I knew from first sight that this exceptional school will most definitely help me as a person to grow and learn as I become a brave, helpful and strong woman.

"Our new school is everything I dreamt it would be and more."
