Super cool Food Dudes take over school's menu.

COVENTRY primary school children are set to see a new menu launched in schools revealing new and exciting characters - the Food Dudes.

Food Dudes are super kid characters who get their powers from eating fruit and vegetables.

The innovative and award-winning Food Dudes programme is coming to 30 schools in Coventry over three years.

The programme encourages children and families to eat more fruit and vegetables through role models, repeated tastings and rewards.

The new menu features a range of healthy options and consists of two courses, a drink, and as much salad and bread as the children want. There are three choices each day including a vegetarian option.

The menu is nutritionally analysed, ensuring children receive the nutrients and energy they need to enjoy the day's activities and learning. The primary meal offers excellent value at pounds 1.85 The Food Dudes is part of the Cook and Eat Well in Coventry project which is funded by the Coventry Health Improvement Programme (CHIP) - a partnership project between NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council - to improve the health and reduce the health inequalities across the city.

Nine thousand Coventry children will have taken part in the Food Dudes by the end of the three-year programme..

Helene Heath, Food Dudes co-ordinator for Coventry, said: "Encouraging children to eat fruit and vegetables when they're young is really important as it can influence eating habits for life. Since we launched Food Dudes we've seen some of the greatest improvements in children, making healthy choices and who were previously some of the poorest eaters."

Councillor Lindsley Harvard, Cabinet Member, City Services said: "I am delighted that Food Dudes are supporting our new menu. It's really important that children make the right food choices and their innovative work has seen some real improvements in children's eating habits."
