A HUDDERSFIELD girl has proved her mettle as a top mechanic.

Sabra Horvath, 24, who lives at Slaithwaite, has become only the second female in the UK to become a Suzuki Master Technician after completing the Japanese manufacturer's intensive technicians training programme.

Sabra joined Colin Appleyard Cars at Chapel Hill as an apprentice motor technician at the age of 16 straight from leaving Almondbury High School.

Determined to become a qualified motor technician, she completed the three-year apprenticeship working at Colin Appleyard and on block release at college in Nottingham.

Sabra first completed the accredited and senior technician courses before finally passing her masters assessment last month.

Each step in the Suzuki programme takes 12 months and includes online course work and regular training sessions at the manufacturer's training facility at Milton Keynes.

The Suzuki course enabled her to develop her knowledge of car mechanics whilst at the same time gaining "hands-on" practical experience of working in a professional workshop.

Now she is one of five mechanics at the Chapel Hill site - and has won high praise from her employer.

Colin Appleyard group service manager Lee Morton said: "This is a fantastic achievement.

Under the guidance of Darren Bullas, our service manager in Huddersfield, Sabra has shown real commitment in reaching this goal and is to be wholeheartedly congratulated. "Our various apprenticeship schemes are an integral part of our after sales customer care programme and at the same time help to provide an important first step on what, we hope, will be a successful career path. Sabra is a shining example of what can be achieved."

Colin Appleyard is a familyrun business and is the country's leading Suzuki car dealer with showrooms in Hudders-field, Keighley, Ashton-underLyne and Shipley.

It also has a multi-franchise motorcycle dealership in Keighley and a Nissan outlet in Keighley whilst Huddersfield and Ashton are also Subaru dealers.
