Sunny times for Irish group The Blizzards.

IRISH band The Blizzards are playing Liverpool Barfly on Saturday ahead of the release of their UK debut single, Buy It Sell It, in July.

The group grew up surrounded by records that documented the soul of the 60s, the neon-pop of the 80s, and were also largely influenced by The Specials from the late 70s.

Their guitar pop dips into all these musical milestones.

Having already performed as special guests of well known bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, The Fratellis and The Kooks in their native Ireland, The Blizzards have quickly developed a huge live following and perform annually at Ireland's Oxegen festival.

Their UK debut album,

Domino Effect, was produced by lead singer Niall Breslin and American Michael Beinhorn, renowned for his work with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Korn, Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson.

He also worked on their first album, A Public Display of Affection, released in Ireland in 2006 where it achieved platinum status.

The Blizzards will be supported by Dead Electrics, The Zenemans and The Know.

Another highlight for Barfly this week is the University of Liver pool's End of Ter m Showcase on Thursday.

Knowsley Community College will also be presenting a showcase of its students' talents on Wednesday June 17.
