Sundown on Pienaar's playing career.
STEVEN PIENAAR is set to continue his football career in his native South Africa - thanks to sportswear manufacturers PUMA!
Orlando Pirates had been hoping to secure a deal with the former Bafana Bafana captain until Mamelodi Sundowns announced a 20-million rand deal with PUMA (more than PS1m).
African sources report that Puma might add even more cash to their Sundowns deal to help secure the signing of poster boy Pienaar.
Pienaar has been a longtime ambassador for the brand and in recent years the German company has become heavily involved in the player's social responsibility projects in Westbury, where the iconic midfielder funds tournaments for the township youth.
It was revealed last week that 34-year-old Pienaar is asking for an annual salary of between R6-8-million (around PS350,000).
Mamelodi Sundowns play in the Premier Soccer League, the top South African competition, and since its inception in 1996 have won the title a record seven times.
