Sunday Mail Investigates: pounds 1million tablets in a bin bag.

FAKE Viagra tablets with a street value of more than pounds 1million have been found in a bin bag.

The stash was in an abandoned car on Glasgow's south side.

The fakes are stamped VGA 100, rather than the legitimate VGR 100.

Other substitutes, like Asian- produced Kamagra, are also flooding the Scottish black market.

A police insider said: 'Viagra is available on prescription so it is surprising - but it's a multi--million pound market for drug dealers.'

Detective Sergeant Ken Simpson, of Strathclyde Drugs Squad, said: 'The prevalence of Viagra is now fairly high.

'It is quite common to recover one or two thousand fake Viagra pills. They are usually found along with Class A drugs like cocaine, heroin and ecstasy.

'But the seizure on the south side of Glasgow was one of the biggest we have made.'

Police say dealers are hiking up prices because many users are too shy to ask doctors for the drug.

The street price of a Viagra tablet can be as high as pounds 40 - while a prescription costs pounds 6.80.

Sildenafil citrate, Viagra's active ingredient, has side-effects, including heart problems, breast enlargement and blurred vision.

Police are concerned the fake tablets will not come with health warnings and may have a higher than usual dosage.

Anybody selling Viagra without a prescription can be charged under the Health and Medicines Act 1988.
