SunEdison Inc. (NYSE: SUNE), a renewable energy development company, has signed a 20-year power purchase contracts with Los Angeles County.

The transaction will see nine government facilities powered with 6.2 megawatts DC of solar energy. It is claimed that the contracts are likely to save taxpayers millions of dollars, and will offer predictable energy pricing to Los Angeles County for decades to come.

The company will construct solar parking canopies at many of the locations. Solar parking canopies offer both shade for parked cars and cost effective, clean solar energy. The systems are likely to generate enough energy each year to power more than 1,400 Californian homes. It will decrease carbon dioxide emissions by more than 114 million pounds. The projects are likely to be completed during the second half of 2016.
