Sun Life Financial and Kony Deliver First Mobile Application in Canada for Group Insurance Plan Members.

Global Financial Services Organization is first in Canadian insurance industry to offer new mobile app on iPhone and Blackberry

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Sun Life Financial, an international financial services organization with corporate headquarters in Canada, has selected Kony Solutions, the leading mobile application platform provider to successfully deploya new mobile solution for their customers. The first in the Canadian insurance industry, the My Sun Life (Canada) mobile application, provides existing group benefits, retirement and savings plan members across Canada the ability to submit benefit claims, check plan balances and find ways to save for the future in a single mobile offering.

"Our goal was to create a compelling mobile offering that made it even easier for customers to do business with us and early feedback has been extremely positive," said Mary De Paoli, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Sun Life Financial. "Sun Life was the first Canadian provider to introduce e-claims with instant adjudication 10 years ago. We're continuing our focus on innovation by taking convenience to a whole new level with My Sun Life (Canada)."

Group plan members with an iPhone or BlackBerry[R] can download the free app directly from each manufacturer's application marketplace. Using the mobile application, customers can now use their smartphones anytime, anywhere to:

* Submit medical and dental claims -- the majority being reimbursed into bank accounts within 24 to 48 hours

* View previously submitted claims

* Access drug and travel coverage card information

* View retirement savings

* Access financial planning tools to assist with ongoing savings efforts

"We evaluated competitive offerings, and chose Kony to launch our mobile solution as we found e-claims are becoming very popular with our customers. We expect this app to contribute to our overall growth in our Group Benefits e-claims which have so far totaled 1.7 million, up 73 per cent in the first three quarters of this year over the comparable period in 2010," said Alice Thomas, vice president, digital, CRM, Contact Center Application Services for Sun Life Financial. "We're looking forward to working closely with Kony in the future."

The Kony Platform is based on a single code-base from which client applications are optimized for each desired channel and format whether that is a smartphone, mobile web browser, tablet, SMS, web gadget or kiosk. Companies can create rich mobile applications for more than 9,000 devices, seven operating systems and multiple channels, including the HTML5 standard, without compromising native features and functionality. Using the Kony Platform, companies have the flexibility they need to adapt their mobile strategy quickly and cost-effectively as business needs change and as mobile standards, software and hardware continue to evolve. Kony is also one of the only platform providers able to offer a fully-integrated security and social media package along with multi-language character sets to support mobile offerings on a global scale.

"Sun Life Financial is an innovative organization that makes listening to its customers a priority," said Raj Koneru, CEO of Kony. "With this focus, Sun Life recognized the opportunity for mobile and took a leadership position in the country by being first-to-market with a mobile channel for its customers. In addition, they've focused on doing mobile right for the long-term, releasing a comprehensive mobile application that is designed to attract new customers, reduce servicing costs and improve the overall consumer experience."

My Sun Life (Canada) is available as a free download for iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones from The App Store and BlackBerry[R] App World[TM] respectively. To learn more about the Sun Life Financial mobile app, please visit
