Sultanate to Host Arab Regional Cyber Security Centre.

Muscat, Dec. 15 (ONA)--- An agreement was signed today at the Information Technology Authority (ITA) by which the Sultanate will host the Regional Centre for cyber security, of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and "IMPACT " the executive arm of the Union. The agreement was signed on behalf of the ITA by Dr. Salim bin Sultan al-Ruzaiqi, its CEO and Ibrahima Sano, Director of ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau. The agreement comes as a result of the leading role played by the National Centre for Computer Security in the Sultanate and its regional and international significant contributions in cyber security issues. The ITU and IMPACT has submitted an initiative to empower the National Centre for Computer Security to manage and play the role of the Regional Centre for Arab Cyber Security which IMPACT plans to establish after the pattern of similar regional centres in Asia and Europe and other places. The objectives of the Regional Centre are to deliver the services and initiatives undertaken by IMPACT and ITU for the Arab region in order to improve the capacity of the cyber security in the region through regional coordination in this area. The Centre will act as coordinator of all activities and projects espoused and implemented by the ITU and IMPACT in cyber security in the Arab region. Dr. Salim bin Sultan al-Ruzaiqi, ITA CEO said that hosting the centre by the Sultanate would enhance security initiatives and the level of the Sultanate's position globally in this vital area, especially with the rapid development in information and telecommunications technology and the electronic risks accompanying them, in addition to achieve positive returns for the Sultanate due to its classification as a major regional centre for cyber security in the Arab Region. ---Ends/MN/FS
