More than 50 people have been killed in two separate suicide bomb attacks in Iraq, police have said.

In the first attack, at least 28 people were confirmed dead when a suicide bomber targeted a group of police officers in Baghdad. Around 30 others were injured.

The officers had been helping to distribute relief supplies to Iraqis when they were attacked.

In a second incident, a restaurant in northeast Baghdad was targeted and least 25 people were killed, most of them thought to be Iranian pilgrims.

Many Iraqis were driven from their homes during the sectarian bloodshed and insurgency unleashed by the 2003 US-led invasion.
