Sugar is the secret.

I am writing in response to a report of a cure for septic wounds by using Australian honey.

I can say from experience that just as effective treatment can be obtained with black treacle, or soap and sugar poultices. My mother often used this on us.

When I was very small I fell on some scissors and, after district nurses couldn't heal it, my mother put a black treacle poultice on and it was clean and healing soon after.

I've used these treatments on my family over the years with lots of success and just lately on my husband's toe, which was red and going septic.

One treatment with sugar and soap cleaned it and it healed quickly.

Conclusion in this is the sugar is the secret.
