Stunning Art Menorah Coming to North School Park.

Byline: Yaakov Kotlarsky

Arlington Heights will be getting some light for the dark months of winter with the 4th annual Menorah Lighting, sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center of Arlington Heights.

Mayor Tom Hayes and village officials will take part in the lighting, which will take place at North School Park.

“The Menorah lighting and Chanukah celebration has become an annual tradition in Arlington Heights” said Mayor Hayes. “I look forward to this special event reminding us that miracles do occur and that light always leads us out of darkness.”

This year’s event will feature a unique and all-new “Shining Light Art Menorah,” recognizing the need for a message of hope during these times.

Participants will have the opportunity to design part of the Art Menorah and to collectively create a magnetic mosaic covered in hundreds of drawings depicting people doing good deeds, spreading light to the world.

“The light of the Menorah teaches us that the best antidote to darkness is to shift our energy and focus into bringing more light to the world” said Rabbi Yaakov Kotlarsky. “Every Mitzvah and act of goodness and kindness that we do, makes all the difference in lighting up the world and making it a better and more G-dly place.”

The Menorah’s design is the brainchild of Chaikie Kotlarsky, co-director of the Chabad Jewish Center. “The design will show how doing mitzvot brings people of different backgrounds together to bring more light into the world,” said Chaikie. “We will be hearing from various community members about projects that they were involved with during this past year, and I look forward to hearing them share about the impact that they made in the world.”

The free public event is for both children and adults and will offer live musical entertainment, Home Depot Menorah Kits, Chanukah games, free giveaways and complimentary hot potato latkes and soup.

The highlight of the event will be the lighting of the candles on the Art Menorah that will illuminate North School Park during the holiday season.

The Art Menorah Lighting is the only public Jewish event in Arlington Heights to date and is open for all to join in a public display of unity at this exciting Chanukah Celebration.

The organizers are asking participants to register online at www.chabadah.org/chanukah or by calling (224) 357-7002 to help them prepare, and every registered member will receive a free event souvenir.
