Studley forms venture with London-based firm

Julien J. Studley, Inc., a U.S. commercial real estate firm with headquarters in New York City and offices nationwide, has formed a joint venture with St. Quintin Chartered Surveyors, a London-based commercial property firm founded in 1831.

Studley and St. Quintin have joined forces to create and service trans-Atlantic business in the areas of office leasing, investment and financing, and will conduct business as Studley St. Quintin International. However, each firm will continue to operate independently in its local markets.

Complementing the London-U.S. connection, will be the establishment of a European network with representation in Antwerp, Brussels, Paris, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and Milan.

"With business opportunities just as likely to originate across the ocean as across the street, operating in the international arena is a must for the successful firm of the '90s," said Julien J. Studley, chairman and president of Julien J. Studley, Inc.

According to George J. Martin, the Studley senior vice president who is leading the firm's global linkup effort, "This network provides us with access to senior executives of European companies, all of whom have established or are going to establish a beach-head in the U.S." He added, "Equally important is the knowledge that if our U.S. clients have real estate needs abroad, we can share these opportunities with an organization we know and trust."

As a key participant in the European network, Studley supports the strategy of joining forces with firms that already have offices in major markets. He said, "A network of established local professionals allows us to immediately begin providing services. While we know our clients' needs, these firms know their markets."

The Belgian-born Studley further emphasized that each international market has specific requirements and regulations, as well as political considerations. For example, he notes that in Brussels it is virtually unheard of to cut down a tree in favor of a development project. "The tree is sacred!" exclaimed Studley.

Continental members of the European network include: Ketteridge St. Quintin in Belgium, the Netherlands and Zurich; Cabinet Sergent et Associes in France; Lutz-Finanz in Germany; St. Quintin Italia; St. Quintin Portugal; and Gesimbroker in Spain.
