Variorum collected studies

Marsh (Rutgers U.) collects 19 essays and articles first published between 1983 and 2010 on two pillars of the Italian Renaissance: Francesco Petrarca, or Petrarch (1304-74) and Leon Battista Alberti (1404-72). The topics include Alberti's autobiography, poetics and polemics in Petrarch's invectives, comic violence and vehemence in Alberti and Apuleius, Alberti and symbolic thinking in the prolegomena to the dialogue Anuli, and textual problems in the Intercenales. In all but two cases, the articles are reproduced, and so retain the original page numbers.
