Student accommodation.

Ocon Construction is laying the foundations for the future by building accommodation for Birmingham students.

The company has been awarded a pounds 5.3 million project by the University of Birmingham to construct four new student accommodation blocks on the Edgbaston Campus.

Architects Stephen George & Partner will design it and Ocon will build it on a live campus site to deliver the 140-unit scheme by September 2012.

The campus already has 30 student accommodation blocks, all of which will remain occupied throughout the programme.

It will provide a mix of studio accommodation and en suite study bedrooms in four/?ve bedroom clusters, each with their own kitchen and dining/living area.

In addition, the programme will also include a new district heating scheme Alastair Dixon from The University of Birmingham said: "This is a major project for the university which will enhance our student accommodation provision and make the residential accommodation estate on campus more energy ef?cient."
