Struggling Swansea give Ponty a Sardis scare.

PONTYPRIDD .................22 SWANSEA ........................17 PREMIERSHIP strugglers Swansea had an oddly out of touch Pontypridd hanging on at the end of a dour pre-Christmas game at Sardis Road.

Heavy conditions didn't help but there was an overload of errors by both sides in a game that never really took off but at half-time, Ponty led 19-0 and it seemed business as usual for the home side Early on they gave the massive Swansea forwards an object lesson in the dark arts of the breakdowns and were well worth their lead at the interval with the All Whites barely getting a look in.

Whatever Swansea coaches Mefin Davies and Kevin Hopkins said during the break certainly paid dividends as Ponty fell foul of referee Ben Whitehouse and the visitors snatched the initiative away from them.

Richard Williams slipped through a tackle for a try after 47 minutes and a lovely delayed pass by Luke Price sent Liam Gadd racing though under the posts for another.

Price kicked both conversions and a penalty to narrow the gap to just two points but Dai Flanagan's 75th minute penalty on a rare visit to Swansea territory was just enough to keep Ponty top of the table and, perhaps, Swansea deserved better than a losing bonus point.
