This volume collects 15 papers on the engineering aspects of the structural morphology (concerned with the relationship between forms, forces, and material of structures) and configuration processing of space structures, papers that were taken from the pages of the International Journal of Space Structures. Opening papers explore historical antecedents of the field, addressing the work of Robert Le Ricolais, Buckminster Fuller, and others. Papers on structural morphology discuss such topics as three-dimensional and dynamic constructions based on Leonardo grids, folding sleeves, teaching of space structures with initial stresses, spherical triangulation systems, form finding and analysis by dynamic relaxation, and a general finite element approach to the form finding of tensile structures by the updated reference strategy. These papers are followed by a treatise on formex configuration processing and two articles on deployable and retractable space structures.
