Stroh names Swanson Director of Sales

The Stroh Brewery Co. announced last week the appointment of Norman Swanson to director of sales. Swanson, a 35-year veteran of the beer business will lead the Stroh sales force and its network of more than 850 wholesalers in the Detroit, WI-based company's sales efforts through in the 1990s.

"Stroh and its wholesalers have gone through a difficult year, but the end result has left Stroh in a strong position for the future," Swanson said. "As director of sales, I'm looking forward to continuing the Stroh tradition of team spirit and building relationships based on respect, trust and honest work."

Swanson joined the Stroh family in 1954 as a sales manager for Detroit. In 1974, he was relocated to the North Central zone and held positions of regional manager, division manager and zone director. In 1987, Swanson returned to the Stroh corporate headquarters to direct the brewer's Sales and Merchandising department. The new director of sales also held the position of national sales director in 1988.

Swanson earned his bachelor's degree in marketing administration from the University of Detroit, where he was also an All-American basketball player for two consecutive years. Prior to joining Stroh, Swanson played for the Rochester Royals in the National Basketball Association.

He currently resides in Detroit with his family.
