Stroh joins national hurricane relief effort.

The Stroh Brewery Co. joined the national relief effort to support victims of Hurricane Andrew by shipping more than 7,000 cases of fresh drinking water from its Tampa, FL, and Longview, TX, breweries to hard-hit cities in Florida and other Louisiana.

Stroh shipped 32-oz. bottles of water from Tampa to Miami on August 25 while an additional shipment of 40-oz. bottles were transported from Longview to accommodate affected areas in Louisiana.

In all, more than 80,000 bottles of water have been distributed to local residents through American Red Cross disaster relief teams. Also, several thousand T-shirts were shipped from Stroh corporate headquarters in Detroit to hurricane victims via the Salvation Army's Southeastern Michigan division.

"When disasters of such a magnitude strike, the innocent people who are left to pick up the pieces need all the support they can get," said William Henry, president and CEO of Stroh.

"The impact of Hurricane Andrew has moved The Stroh Brewery Company to employ its resources and do its part by providing water and clothing, two of the most basic human needs during a crisis.

"Stroh is honored to assist the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army," Henry continued, "two organizations which have consistently demonstrated efficiency and skill in attending to disaster victims over the years. It's incredible to be part of such a spontaneous team effort to support the unfortunate victims of Hurricane Andrew."
