Stroh Brewery takes two prizes in annual Twin Cities beer poll

The Stroh Brewery Co. walked away with two awards in the Twin Cities Reader's 14th Annual Beer Poll. The brewer's Signature and Stroh's Light brands were selected as best in their categories.

Each year, the area's weekly newspaper conducts the beer poll to determine Minneapolis'/St. Paul's favorite domestic and imported beers. Nearly 100 judges participated in this year's poll, held May 16 at a Minneapolis restaurant. During the event, judges rated beers in 14 categories on taste and appearance based on a scale of one to 10.

Signature received a score of 8.725, taking first place in the "Super Premium Lagers-Light & Dark" category. Judges called the beer "clean and crisp," "rich with a good aftertaste," "velvety smooth," with "a spunky depth."

Stroh's Light placed second in the "Light" category with a 7.75.
