Strikes delay rubbish shake-up.

A SHAKE-UP of refuse collections in Middlesbrough has been postponed.

The changes, which include collections of refuse and recyclable material being made only four days a week, were to be brought in this month. But council strikes on July 16 and 17 have delayed the launch.

Middlesbrough Council is postponing the system to minimise disruption. Tom Punton, head of StreetScene Services, said: "We want the changes to take effect with as little disruption as possible."

The new system will reduce Bank Holiday collection disruption and free up a day for maintenance to bin wagons.
