Byline: By BRUCE WALKER

FORMER Airdrie striker Steve Cooper died from a cracked skull after a fall, a post mortem has revealed.

The 39-year-old star was found dead last Sunday at his home in Birmingham. It was found he had died in his sleep from internal bleeding.

Cooper was top scorer in two out of his four seasons at Airdrie and scored the winner against Hearts in the1995Scottish Cup semi-final.

His former team--mate and close friend Paul Jack said yesterday: 'The post mortem showed he had a cracked skull from a fall.

'The tragedy is that doctors said it would have shown up if he'd gone for an X-ray.

'They said it had been slowly bleeding away inside and he didn't know it.'

Jack said many former players and fans would be attending Steve's funeral in Birmingham on Friday.

He added: 'Steve was a great big guy.'

Cooper is survived by wife Hayley and his children Dale and Jade.
