Striker `spat on woman'.

ENGLAND striker Wayne Rooney has been accused of spitting in a woman's face in a nightclub, it emerged last night.

The Everton star allegedly spat at the woman in Manchester's Ampersand club in the early hours of Sunday.

Just hours earlier, Rooney's team lost 4-3 at home to Manchester United.

Last night, his manager, Paul Stretford of Proactive Sports Group, denied the allegations. He said: 'Any allegations being made against Wayne are fatuous and entirely false.

'The only untoward incident Wayne was aware of in the nightclub in question was when he was subject to a volley of verbal abuse from a young woman.

'Although he did not respond in any way, she spat at him and was ejected from the nightclub.'

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 23-year-old woman had made an allegetion of common assault against an 18-year-old male..
