The TV show about a teenage sleuth attracted such a dedicated following that when it was cancelled, fans paid for a plane to fly over the makers' offices urging a rethink. Now the same brigade has paid PS3.4m through Kickstarter for a movie sequel.

Kristen Bell returns as the titular character who's tempted back to the world of sleuthing when an old flame is accused of murder.

The fact that fans dug so deeply suggests those who grew up with the series - which ran for three seasons until 2007 - will pay to see it, but nobody else need bother. The TV cast are present and correct, including Ryan Hansen as Dick Casablancas but, aside from a bit of swearing, the story feels like a Nancy Drew mystery, only with grown-ups in the leading roles.
