Stop this reckless bombing.

Stop this Reckless Bombing

The killing of innocent human beings in the Gulf should immediately be stopped. The scale of U.S. action - an average of 1000 air sorties a day with over 2000 planes, 600, crack troops a huge armada of naval ships and all the state-of-art weaponry devised for super power conflict clearly shows that the objective is not to achieve eviction of Iraq from Kuwait but to decimate the Iraqi leadership and Iraqi people.

The war in the Gulf has now clearly unfolded the aims of American policy. The U.S. neither gave time nor paid any heed to the genuine Iraqi request to debate on the Middle East as a whole. It was termed as irrelevant. |Operation Desert Storm' is nothing but to destroy Iraq and in the process the U.S. hoped to secure its hold on the world's energy resources and the profits they create. U.S. President was very quick to use force in the case of Iraq. A U.S. political pundit Noam Chomsky said that "Saddam's invasion of Kuwait was little worse than the U.S. invasion of Panama. If there had not been such a strong reaction to Saddam Hussein it's possible he might have done what U.S. did in Panama."

The U.S. led multinationals have so far launched 49,000 sorties and dropped 350,000 bombs. Exact figures of human lives have not come in the news media so far. It will be known only when war comes to a halt. But a guestimate is not very difficult. If we take a killing to a bomb there would have been killings of 350,000 Iraqis during the three week's operation. What kind of justice is this and who has given the licence to U.S. for this mass havoc on the innocent human beings. Iraq a single Muslim country is being attacked by 28 states including super powers like U.S., UK and France.

We strongly protest the dual standards of the West which is insensitive to the long occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip by Israel and to its barbaric raids continuing for several years on the citizens of Lebanon.

Strangely the upholders of freedom of press and rule of law have imposed stringent press censorship. This is merely to hide from the world not only the alarming failure they have thus far faced in purely military terms of achieving little but to prevent it from knowing the barbaric havoc they have wrecked over the civilians in Iraq.

The U.S. bragged that its allies had poured in twice as much explosives on Baghdad in the first two days of the war as was dropped on Hiroshima, One is simply horrified when one listens to such details. Human beings who are being killed in this process seem to have no number, no letter, they do not seem to matter.

Evidently the U.S. had come to defend Saudi Arabia. A week after the arrival of American troops Mr. Bush broadened the aim of American presence. The troops, he said are there to drive Iraq out of Kuwait. The U.S. drifted further away from the position of defending Saudi Arabia to containing Iraq and then to punishing and finally destroying its military machinery chemical plants tanks artillery and its nuclear bomb potential. And the multinational forces are now saying that they are there to reallocate the oil resources of the region. This kind of game should end forthwith and the foreign troops should be withdrawn from the soil of Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan should dissociate itself from this joint operation. The peace mission should be wrapped up because this mission has been rejected by Iraq. It has been motivated mainly by the need to placate inflamed public opinion at home. Unless Pakistan proves its non aligned credentials no country would accept Prime Minister's peace mission. Pakistani troops should be called back because they are not there to protect the holy places. According to reports Pakistan Army has been stationed at the Yemeni and Jordanian borders for thwarting aggression against Saudi Arabia. Pakistan should not play in the hands of Saudis and Kuwaitis who are financing the huge deployment of Western armed forces to wipe out Iraq. Moreover there is no provision in the Constitution under which Pakistani troops could be sent to foreign land. General Zia back in 1982 sent Pakistani troops to Saudi Arabia but this decision was never brought before the Parliament for endorsement.
